Police transfer coffins of 27 victims of Peru mining tragedy to morgue

Description

Police brigades transfer the bodies of the 27 workers who died in the devastating fire at a gold mine in southern Peru to the Arequipa morgue. A short circuit caused an explosion that started a blaze inside one of the mine shafts in the town of Yanaquihua. The fire broke out on May 6 but rescue efforts were hampered by a buildup of toxic gases inside the La Esperanza 1 mine. IMAGES
